You are about to finish the European tour. It seems you have gained an incredible popularity over there too…
Yeah, it’s been good. We have been working on US for many many years. So yeah, it’s all good.
What kind of differences do you see between the European and American fans?
I don’t know if there is a big difference. I mean they are all metalheads. But I would say Europeans are more singing along and have fists in the air and americans are more into moshing.
Are you a professional musician or do you work beside Amon Amarth?
I only do Amon Amarth.
What did you do before Amon Amarth?
I was a carpenter.
Did you like it?
Yeah, I love it.
If you could go back in time where and when would you like to live or spend some time?
I kinda like it where we are 🙂
How about the ancient viking times?
I don’t know, I’m too comfortable. I don’t wanna lay down on a bed of stones. I like soft bed and heater… 🙂 I like to have it comfortable.
And if you have a chance to have a “comfort zone” which king would you like to serve?
Maybe Canute (Knud) of Denmark.
He was ruthless and cool:)
What’s your favorite story from the norse mithology?
It’s difficult to pick just one story I guess. I think there is many cool stuff. They are equally quite cool, all of them.
Are you also interested in other cultures and mithologies?
Yeah kinda, but I don’t really know too much. I mean if I’m gonna watch a movie or like a documentury or something I rather watch something like that in stead of watching something what ever. I think the Greek mithology is kinda cool same as the aztecs. It’s kinda similar, I think all the ancient mithologies are kind of similar to each other. It’s just different names, but they all have the similar kind of gods.
What do you think about religions in general?
It’s not for me, I’m not religious at all. I mean if people want that I’m not gonna stop them. As long as it doesn’t hurt other people you can believe in whatever you want to believe. Doesn’t bother me.
Do you have any favorite nordic symbol?
I don’t know if I have a favorite I mean I have a few tattoo on my body like Thor’s hammer and wolfcross, but I don’t have a favorite one. I think they are all kinda cool. All my tattoos are connected to the vikings.
Do you think kids learn enough about pagan times and nordic religion in Scandinavian schools?
Not really. I think they don’t teach that at all. I think it’s just the christianity pretty much like everywhere else.
Which are most inspiring and most special Scandinavian places for you?
The old town of Birka is quite cool. It used to be one of the largest viking village. It’s nice by the lake, that’s a cool place.
What do you do when you are not busy with the band? Do you have any hobbies?
Yeah, I still like my old, former profession, carpenting. I have a house, I do a lot work on that. And fishing.
Do you watch the series called Vikings?
Yeah, I’ve seen the first season. I actually thought it was quite good at the beginning but then it got too much you know nonsense, love story, brother against brother, yada-yada… But I guess that’s what you need to have a series that can interest more people. But I thought at the beginning it had a very good potential. I heard the second season should be good so I’m gonna watch. But usually all these series start good, doesn’t matter whatever it is, it always start very good, but I rather watch a movie.
If you had a chance to pick the bands for an Amon Amarth tribute album, which bands would you pick?
Well I would pick my favorite bands of course like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Slayer…
Which bands would you like to cover?
I don’t think if I would like to cover any bands. I don’t like covers, even though we have done a few covers but I don’t really see the point.
Which are your five favorite albums?
Slayer-Seasons in the abyss, WASP-The crimson idol, Meryful Fate-Don’t break the oath…maybe Death…I can’t really pick one album, I think they are all good. It’s difficult to name just one album from my favorite bands, but definitely Seasons is the number one.
Do you have a message to the fans?
Yeah, thanks for your support!
